ABOUT US

The Global Mental Health Peer Network is the first global organisation dedicated to empowering the voices of persons with lived experience.
We exist to empower, strengthen, and catalyse the voices of persons with lived experience worldwide. Our goal is to help cultivate a new generation of global lived experience leaders to empower and develop leaders worldwide to drive change and transformation in the global mental health sector.

Strengthening and empowering the voices of persons with lived experience worldwide to inspire respect and acknowledgement of their experiences, views, and opinions throughout the global mental health sector and around the world.

EXPERT BY EXPERIENCE
The views, opinions, and experiences of persons with lived experience should guide change within the Global Mental Health sector

AIMS

  • To develop global leadership of lived experience;
  • To create a platform where persons with lived experience can share their views, perceptions, and experiences;
  • To connect mental health care user groups and movements globally to form a community of experts by experience and who are empowered to self-advocate and advocate on a broader and global scale;
  • To become the first truly globally represented lived experience organisation in the world, who are instrumental in driving change and transformation, in every country.

OUR TEAM

The Global Mental Health Peer Network is made up of the Board of Management, the Global Office, the Regional Executive Committee, the Country Leadership Committee, Sub-Committees and Mentors. Each and every member is living with a mental health condition (past or present). ​

OUR BOARD OF MANAGEMENT

The GMHPN Board of Management was established in accordance with the South African Non-profit Organisations Act 71 of 1997. Board Members are responsible for insight and oversight of the organisation.

OUR GLOBAL OFFICE

The Global Office is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and responsible for the day-to-day operations; project development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; sustainability and donor relations; partnership development; and coordinating the structural committees and forums.

OUR REGIONAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Regional Executive Committee Members are appointed by members of the Country Leadership Committee. The Committee consists of Regional Representative Leads and Deputy Regional Representative Leads. Members serve a one-year term..

OUR COUNTRY LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE

Members are appointed by the Global Office after an extensive application and review process, and serve a two-year term. Members can then apply to be an Honorary Mentor after completion of their term. Up to five representatives are appointed per country.
